Cyprus Netball Festival

11/03/20 | Schools, News

Hot off the press today, Travel Places are proud to announce the launch of their new two day netball festival, to be held in Cyprus, in October 2021. We spoke to Andrea Walker, the festival’s founder, to find out more details of this exciting new tournament.

Travel Places: So Andrea, what’s the format of the tournament?

Andrea Walker: The Netball tournament is a two day festival open to two age groups; U14’s and U16’s. The Tournament will run through the afternoon so you can have the morning to kick back, relax and enjoy the autumn sun!

TP: And why Cyprus?

AW: Other Europe netball destinations have got a little saturated with tours in recent years, so we wanted to offer something new and different, where the local schools are very keen to compete at a good level. One of the reasons we chose Cyprus was because there are direct flights from the UK. Cyprus has one of the warmest winters in the Mediterranean, which makes it a perfect winter netball destination, with October seeing an average of a balmy 21 degrees.

TP: Who’s signed up already?

AW: UK school places are limited to just 6 teams per age group, and we’ve already got two Cypriot schools from the Limassol region signed up for some international competition so make sure you get in quick!

TP: What can the teams expect?

AW: Lots of fun, warm weather, stunning beaches, good food and friendly, competitive matches.

TP: Other than the netball, what else can teams get up to in Cyprus?

AW: The tour includes a traditional Cypriot night out at local Taverna with live music, folklore show and speciality dishes plus an evening of bowling. If your school would like to extend your stay there are a lot of options available. You could pay a visit the Bird and Animal Park, or a drive up to explore the beautiful Troodos Mountains. Your team could Capture the spirit of Cyprus with a traditional Donkey ride, or view Limassol coast from the deck of a catamaran and sail the crystal waters, or just spend a day of fun at the Watermania Waterpark! For the adventure seekers there is Go Carting and a nearby Adventure Mountain Park offering paint ball, laser tag and climbing. Or, after all that action on the court, you and your team could just kick back and enjoy a leisurely island tour.

TP: For UK teams what are the travel options?

AW: Direct flights are available from London Gatwick and London Heathrow to Larnaca. On request there is also the flight option into Paphos from London Gatwick, Stanstead, Manchester, Luton, and Bristol. If you are interested then be sure to reach out the TP schools team and we can go through your needs to create the best travel options for you and your team.
