Tennis Clinics with Rafa Nadal Academy

14/02/20 | Schools, News

‘I always work with a goal – and the goal is to improve as a player and a person. That, finally, is the most important thing of all.’
Rafael Nadal

As part of our exclusive partnership, for UK schools, with the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy, we recently offered a number of free clinics to schools and tennis clubs in the UK. The clinics were delivered by 2 coaches from the sporting superstar’s academy, which is based in Mallorca.

The sessions were based on Rafa’s training technique and regime and delivered over 90 minutes.  Our participating schools were Thorpe Hall School, New Hall School, Shiplake College and Brentwood School.

Tennis is a game for life and a game for all seasons so the clinics took place in January, both indoors and outdoors, depending on available facilities. The players were put through their paces and worked hard over the course of the sessions.  Fortunately the outdoor sessions were dry, if a bit chilly!

The professional coaches, Dominic and Seb, focused on movement, consistency and contact point.  Overall they were impressed with the commitment and quality of the players they coached.

After the sessions there was time for some short Q + A’s with the major questions being…..

‘Is Rafa nice?’ Answer – ‘Yes. Very nice and nicer than you would think.’

‘Does Rafa train at the Academy?’ Answer – ‘Yes, when he is not on tour he trains at the academy almost every day.’

Tim Douglas, Head of School Tours said ‘We look to offer the best value we can to our schools and support their in house sports programmes. Hopefully by offering free professional clinics, we have helped enhance their programmes in a small way. Having been lucky enough to have visited some fantastic sports facilities over the years, I was blown away by the quality and range of facilities on offer in Mallorca. Through this partnership with the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy we are able to offer our schools access to a world class tennis set up and programme’

If your school is interested in taking part in further free clinics please email schools@travelplaces.co.uk
