Travel Places joins Sport Positive panel
Travel Places took to the stage at this year’s Sport Positive Summit, in collaboration with UNFCCC and IOC, which gathered over 570 global sports leaders in person, and more online – to discuss and increase action and ambition on sustainability, climate change, biodiversity, environmental justice and diversity, equity and inclusion.
As silver partner of the summit, which was held at The Kia Oval on 8 and 9 October 2024, Travel Places Joint Managing Director, Matt Warren, was invited to join the panel debating ‘Staff & team travel: finding efficiencies & innovating’.
Moderated by Sheila Nguyen of the Sports Environment Alliance, Matt appeared alongside Iona Neilson, Head of Climate Action at SailGP and Karine Bozzacchi, CSR & Co-ordination Manager at Amaury Sport Organisation (Tour de France) to share his experience and thoughts on the challenges and opportunities of sustainable travel for the sector, and the innovations he’d like to see in the future.
As one of the very few business travel B Corporation™ companies in the UK, the Sport Positive Summit is a natural fit for us, and we were really pleased to support the event, share our expertise and learn from others.
Events such as Sport Positive make a huge difference in moving the needle and we are delighted to have played our part by supporting this year's summit
Matt Warren, Joint Managing Director, Travel Places
Matt Warren, Joint Managing Director at Travel Places, said: “We can’t escape the impact that travel and events programmes can have on our resources, society and the environment. But we also strongly believe that these events can be a powerful force for good and we embrace our responsibility in facilitating that.
“Travel for the sports industry is complex, especially for teams and it can be far more complicated to reduce footprints in this industry. But those complexities shouldn’t stop us being able to make major progress in the years to come. Events such as Sport Positive make a huge difference in moving the needle and we are delighted to have played our part by supporting this year’s summit.”
Claire Poole, Sport Positive Founder and CEO told us: “There are no easy solutions to reducing the travel impact for professional sports organisations operating in a global landscape. Open dialogue, partnerships and collaboration are crucial to the evolution of emissions reductions. We were delighted to have Travel Places as a partner for the 2024 Summit as they’re already working with sports organisations that are leading on these efforts, so come from a knowledgeable and authentic place.”
