Travel Places hosts sustainability event

Travel managers and sustainability professionals from sports and media organisations gathered alongside travel experts and suppliers at the London Heathrow Marriott for our first sustainable travel summit on Monday, 15 July 2024.

The inaugural event, which was supported by British Airways and the Marriott International, provided an opportunity for our clients to collaborate, discuss, share and learn more about the opportunities to increase the positive impact of business travel.

In a range of topics aimed at supporting our clients to turn their sustainability goals into reality,  the half-day forum explored air travel advances, such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), how to identify more sustainable accommodation options, and the opportunities for data to drive positive change.  Our speakers included:

  • Sarah Whiting, Channel Solutions Lead, Thrust Carbon
  • Sue Robinson, Greengage Environmental
  • Lindsey Williams, Head of Sustainable Business, British Airways
  • Nikolay Yordanov, Director of Operations, London Heathrow Marriott

A panel discussion, moderated by Claire Poole, Founder of Sport Positive, and featuring Rohan Mitchell, EMG, Dr Cristiana Pace, Enovation Consulting, Danny Pecorelli, Exclusive Collection and Andrew Appleby, Marriott International, discussed the ways in which we can all drive positive change in our organisations.

Partnerships are at the core of building a more sustainable future, and by working together we can encourage, challenge and advocate for sustainability throughout the sectors we work in.

Matt Warren, Joint Managing Director

Matt Warren, Joint Managing Director at Travel Places, said of the event: “Partnerships are at the core of building a greener, more sustainable future and by working together, we can encourage, challenge and advocate for sustainability throughout the sectors we work in. Our client base spans many of the world-leading sporting, media and entertainment organisations, so we’re committed to providing opportunities for them to collaborate and learn from each other, building best practice around sustainable travel.

“This event was just one of the various ways we can support that collaboration and we thank all those who took time out of their busy schedules to attend, speak or support us.”

The event concluded with a tour of the London Heathrow Marriott, where delegates heard more about the initiatives taken by the hotel to reduce its carbon emissions and increase its positive impact, followed by a superb ‘food waste’ themed dinner.

Travel Places would like to thank the London Heathrow Marriott and British Airways partnering with us on this event.
