US confirms ESTA fee increase
The United States government has announced that the fee for applying for an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) has nearly doubled from $21 to $40. This fee increase will commence from 30 September 2025.
This fee change will affect travellers from Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries, including the United Kingdom and most of the EU, who plan regular short visits to the U.S. for business.
The ESTA is a mandatory travel authorisation for eligible visitors entering the U.S. without a visa. Once approved, it remains valid for two years or until the traveller’s passport expires, whichever comes first.
The fee increase applies only to new applications submitted on or after 30 September and any unpaid applications still in the system at that time. Travellers with existing approved ESTAs will not be affected.
For those planning travel to the U.S. later this year or in 2026, it is advisable to apply for your ESTA before the end of September to avoid the higher cost. Early application is particularly beneficial for frequent business travellers and group bookings, where the fee increase could result in a substantial additional cost.
We will continue to monitor any developments in US travel regulations and keep you updated.
